This webcast will discuss the impact of these and other cases affecting your business. Meanwhile, the FCC has not exactly been silent. Thanks to the release of its net neutrality rules and the chairman’s shifting public statements; the entry into over-the-top services by HBO, CBS, and Hulu; and the fall in network viewership, this issue is top-of-mind in Washington and throughout the broadcast, Internet, and motion-picture world. Of course, we can’t forget to mention the spectrum auctions, apparently postponed until 2016. Guest speaker James M. Burger, a partner in Thompson Coburn LLP, will cover these and other communications issues of interest to those in the content, consumer electronics, and information technology industries.
Jim represents technology and consumer electronics companies on intellectual property, communications, and government policy matters. Jim was Senior Director in Apple Computer’s Law Department; his responsibility included worldwide telecommunications and intellectual property policy. Jim has participated extensively in such complex matters as the FCC’s Digital Television proceedings, DVD content protection, the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI), wireless data communications, the Copy Protection Technical Working Group (CPTWG), the Advanced Access Content System (AACS), as well as representing information technology industry associations and individual IT companies before the FCC in proceedings such as Broadcast Protection, and Cable Plug & Play. Jim is Co-Chair of the Federal Communications Bar Association IP Committee, Vice Chair of the Intellectual Property Owners Association Anti-Counterfeiting & Anti-Piracy Committee, and an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown Law.
