The UK Section holds monthly evening meetings, where we get together to socialise and discuss topics impacting our industry. Take a look at the meetings listed below, sign up and come along! Priority is given to SMPTE members, but newcomers are very welcome. At every event, there will be an interesting technically-oriented presentation, plenty of time to network with industry peers, and ample refreshments courtesy of our sponsors and supporters.

SMPTE North: Pub Meetup in Manchester
Where: The Old Wellington, Manchester, M3 1SW
When: Thursday 9th July 2026
Join us for an informal evening of networking with fellow media and entertainment professionals, students, and technology enthusiasts.
Whether you work in broadcast, streaming, production, post-production, or are studying for a career in the industry, this is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, share experiences, discuss industry trends, and expand your professional network in a relaxed setting.
There will be no presentations, talks, or venue tours—just casual conversation, new connections, and a chance to catch up with colleagues old and new over a drink.

Meeting in London
SMPTE UK visits... Molinare Creative in Soho
Where: Molinare, 34 Foubert's Place, London, W1F 7PX
When: Doors open at 6pm for refreshments and networking. Tours run from 7pm to 8pm, followed by pizza, drinks and networking in the Mezz bar to 9pm. And followed by drinks nearby in Soho afterwards.
Summertime in Soho with SMPTE!
Join us at Molinare Creative in Soho for drinks, food, and a tour of their Performance Capture (PCap) stage and a discussion on AI in post in the Jack Cardiff theatre. Going beyond basic Motion Capture (MoCap), PCap records the full emotional and physical performance of an actor to create believable, nuanced digital humans. Of course AI is a hot topic in media production - we'll hear about the reality in the trenches, and where AI really makes a difference.
Enjoy drinks and food courtesy of Molinare, and the abundance of venues in the immediate vicinity for continuing on after the event!
Just like all SMPTE UK events, this meeting is open to existing professionals and students alike. Attendance is free of charge. If you're a student, we can help with your travel costs to get to the meeting. Get in touch with us.
SMPTE UK is run by an enthusiastic group of volunteers, all of whom have day-jobs as professionals in the Motion Picture and Television industries. SMPTE runs elections each year to appoint members to these and other leadership roles. If you'd like to help out with running SMPTE UK, or even run for election to one of these roles in a future year, come to our meetings and talk with our current Chair, John Ellerton.
