SMPTE Advisory Notice for SMPTE RP 2057

An issue has been identified in SMPTE RP 2057 (Text-Based Metadata Carriage in MXF), in which the Universal Label (UL) defined in Table 4 (byte 13 = 03h), used to identify text-based descriptive metadata, also has been used in deployed equipment to identify a different descriptive metadata scheme (AMWA AS-03).

SMPTE has established a group to address this issue such that this UL assignment conflict is corrected. SMPTE is considering revising RP 2057. Implementers and users of RP 2057 are urged to report their implementation to SMPTE immediately at 31fs-chair@lists.smpte.org.
