Kwame Nyong’o

Kwame-NyongoKwame Nyong’o is a writer, animation director and educator who is well known for his children's books A Tasty Maandazi, I Love Ugali and Sukuma Wiki and The Yummiest Githeri. Kwame is passionate about creating positive content about Africa, stories that span the continent's past, present and exciting future. He has been involved in various animation training and production initiatives such as UNESCO's Africa Animated! Project, which trained animators across the Africa with an unique and internationally acclaimed curricula, and Tinga Tinga Tales, a Disney 2D series produced in Kenya. Kwame's well-regarded shorts, such as The Legend of Lwanda Magere, have won many awards for their exploration of animation as a way to tell African folk tales. In 2017 and 2018 Kwame was on the team that won awards at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France for The World's Most Eligible Bachelor, a digital campaign supporting northern White Rhino conservation in Kenya that generated billions of impressions. His film The Wonderful Story of Aisha Ali and Flipflopi, The Multicoloured Dhow Boat was selected in competition at Annecy in 2021. Kwame is a Professor of Animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Georgia. Speaker of the 2024 Power of Color Symposium
