The SMPTE Sum-Up 5-17-2025

November 11, 2025

Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. Recently at SMPTE:

SMPTE had a booth at Display Week! Display Week touched on all aspects of visual media, including innovations in AI, high bandwidth, and sustainable practices. SMPTE was there to participate in all the fun, discussing Standards that involve display technologies and how membership can be beneficial to individual careers and organizations.

SMPTE UK, along with the Media Production Technology Show, held the Media Technology Conference 2025! This year, the conference introduced AI-Training from industry experts, along with all of the sessions and exhibits ranging from editing to broadcasting. This event is always the one of the most popular industry events of the year.

SMPTE San Francisco held a discussion on the 2025 NAB with Students from the SMPTE Student Chapters at City College San Francisco and De Anza College. The conversation not only emphasized the importance of such conferences, but also had perspectives from students who attended the event in person.

The SMPTE ST 2110 Boot Camp is back! This hit intensive gives attendees a comprehensive education on SMPTE ST 2110, including how to implement the Standard in workplaces, solutions to possible issues that could arise, and how to master the solution once it’s in place. We’re also offering a hands-on practical lab so attendees can apply what they learn right away. After passing a final exam, attendees will receive an industry recognized certificate showcasing their mastery of SMPTE ST 2110. Register today!

CALL FOR PAPERS IS NOW OPEN! SMPTE has opened the call for technical papers for the 2025 Media Technology Summit. The Summit will be held Oct. 13-16 at the Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E Green St, Pasadena, CA. Unpublished manuscripts will undergo a multipeer review process when submitted as abstracts. Abstracts should fall within the range of 300 to 400 words and will be accepted until May 31. For more information, check out the submission page!

That’s it for this week’s SMPTE Sum-Up. For more information on past and current events, standards projects, and webcasts, visit our website. See you next week when we cover even more SMPTE events!
