SMPTE Hollywood Section Explored 8K Advances and debuted the Kaleidescape Strato K Player! Done in conjunction with the 8K Association, the meeting introduced the Kaleidescape’s new flagship Strato K movie player, which is capable of playing 8K movies and additionally introduces a new format called 4K Cinematic. Special guest author Carolyn Giardina covered the event on our Substack.
SMPTE Sacramento held a Dynamic Media Facilities Update with Claudia Souza from ASG! Souza’s update reflected the current state of media facilities given recent technical innovations. The evening began with a social, including some light refreshments and networking, before diving into the main topic of the night.

The enclosure lets users run AJA PCIe cards from Thunderbolt 5 laptops and mini-PCs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and is aimed at production environments where space and portability matter, including on-set, remote production, and live switching.
