The SMPTE Sum-Up 6-28-2025

November 11, 2025

Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. Recently at SMPTE:

SMPTE Rocky Mountains held an event details the best practices to follow when transitioning from SDI to an IP Network, specifically SMPTE ST 2110. The event involved five panelists from both local and national stations sharing their experiences, challenges, and solutions, when adopting SMPTE ST 2110. They also had some drinks and light snacks, which was wonderfully pleasant.

SMPTE Oceania held an exclusive tour of ABC Parramatta, the new flagship facility for the ABC. This facility includes a state-of-the-art AR/VR capable Television production studio, radio production booths and editing facilities and is being used for full-scale news and radio broadcasts. It was truly an exciting adventure for all attendees.

The Call for Papers deadline has been extended! Those interested in leading technical sessions at the 2025 MTS now have additional time to prepare their applications! Those interested must submit an abstract (300-400 words) of their scientific paper so it can be peer-reviewed by our technical committee. Submit your application by June 30! Application requirements and forms can be found here.

The Call for Papers will also include a Color Science specific track with two ways to submit: The Journal Track Manuscript requires a publication ready paper (5000-word limit). The Conference Proceedings Track requires an extended summary (up to 1500 words) that describes key results and methodologies with figures. All materials for the color science option are due by July 15. More info and forms can be found here.

SMPTE Standards has several updates, including a new survey that will help improve the SMPTE Standards Community. Fill out the survey here. Standards also wants the Society to check out our new and improved recently published document page.
