PRESENTATION SYNOPSIS:

New England SMPTE members and other regional professionals will be treated to a full-on technical presentation about NDI. (Network Device Interface) NDI is a Connectivity Technology developed by NewTek in 2015 and recently acquired by VIZRT. NDI enables the sharing of real-time live video, audio and metadata across a Local Area Network (LAN). It is currently being used by millions worldwide and has been adopted by more media organizations than any other IP standard, creating the industry’s largest ecosystem of products connecting video over IP. Since NewTek chose to initially offer NDI as an open access product, that factor allows any technology manufacturer to use it without a licensing cost. This has caused a significant growth in the popularity of NDI.

For the Broadcasting Community, NDI could augment or perhaps even replace portions of traditional genlocked SDI / Router-based studio infrastructures. NDI has integral strengths in working across multiple studios, control rooms, and cloud-based applications. As more video manufacturing firms embrace NDI, it could become more commonplace and be more easily adopted by The Broadcasting and Motion Imaging production communities. This presentation will give a comprehensive look at the technical and business aspects of NDI, plus an introduction to some of the higher end users and applications that are in active use today.
