Ronny Van Belle

Technology Manager, Image Processing, Diagnostic Imaging

After obtaining his masters degree in electronic engineering at the university of Gent and a master of science in applied mathematics at the UCE in Birmingham in 1993, Ronny Van Belle joined Barco a few weeks later as an electronic design engineer where he pioneered the first digital image processing algorithms for the novel LCD-based projectors. As a leading engineer in developing real time processing solutions, he enabled the usage of LCD projection in some critical markets, such as Virtual and Augmented Reality, Control Rooms, Simulation and Training. Throughout the years he continued to innovate on real time image processing algorithms suitable for newly introduced display technologies such as DMD chips (digital mirror devices) introduced in pro-AV, digital cinema and rental & tagging markets, LED-walls (light emitting diodes) for outdoor displays, events and advertising markets, laser projection for digital cinema, LCD-based monitors for healthcare, broadcasting, post-production, air traffic control and defense applications. Today, his chosen company Barco is still active in most of the markets mentioned and has dedicated R&D teams creating high end products. Since 2010, Ronny joined Barco’s CTO office where until today he’s leading the corporate image processing team, which introduces new technologies required for the demanding applications of Barco’s market-leading products worldwide. The low latency image processing solutions created and supported by his team are supported by 85 patent applications and cover domains such as motion performance, display calibration and video format conversions.
