Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. Recently at SMPTE:

The March TC Meetings were held this week, and they detailed the multitude of work being done in SMPTE’s Standards community. Held entirely online, the meetings gave updates on Catena, AI Standards, SMPTE’s sustainability group, and much more. A full report will be available soon.

SMPTE Oceania held a celebration for International Women’s Day with Rise ANZ and SVGW Chairs! The event included presentations from special guests: Heather Garriock, Interim CEO of Football Australia, Vanessa Arden-Wood, Head of Social and Digital for the ABC’s Screen Division, and Margie McLew, Deputy News Director at Nine News Sydney. The day even featured a lovely breakfast, making it a lovely way to celebrate the women who make the Oceania media tech industry great!

SMPTE Montreal/Quebec held their first event of year: a tour of the Canadian Tire Center, home of the Ottawa Senators! Attendees had the opportunity to meet Stan Kertesz, Audio and Video Production Manager for the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club and featured a demonstration on the LED and Control Room.

SMPTE is delighted to partner with SID to offer member companies a special opportunity to participate in a dedicated SMPTE Pavilion and panel discussion at Display Week, May 5-7, Los Angeles Convention Center. The 2026 Media Technology Summit Call for Papers began this week! Those wishing to participate in MTS2026 can submit one of two ways: The regular conference track requires a 300-400 abstract of a scientific paper, as well as an 800-1000 word outline of said paper. The journal track is for those with full, publish-ready manuscripts between 3,000 and 5,000 words. More details and submissions links for the MTS 2026 Call for Papers can be found here.

SMPTE Education, in partnership with Women is Streaming Media, held the second of a five-part webcast series: “Cops and (Content) Robbers: Using Policing Methodology to Disrupt Streaming Pirates.” The session is currently available to watch on SMPTE’s website. Part 3 of the series will be presented on March 11, and you can register for each series webcast now on the SMPTE Events page.
