The SMPTE Sum-Up 3-21-2026

June 23, 2026

Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. Recently at SMPTE:

SMPTE UK held the Bill Lovell Lecture, an annual event celebrating the life and work of a beloved SMPTE member. This year’s lecture was led by Andy Quested and hosted by Levira Media Services. The lecture was on Quested’s personal perspective on a career in the broadcast, production and standards industry. The evening included two networking events at the beginning and the end of the function.

The 2026 Media Technology Summit Call for Papers is here! Those wishing to participate in MTS2026 can submit one of two ways: The regular conference track requires a 300-400 abstract of a scientific paper, as well as an 800-1000 word outline of said paper. The journal track is for those with full, publish-ready manuscripts between 3,000 and 5,000 words. More details and submissions links for the MTS 2026 Call for Papers can be found here.

SMPTE Education, in partnership with Women is Streaming Media, held the third of a five-part webcast series: “The Current State of AI in Media Accessibility and Localisation.” Part 4 of the series will be presented on April 8, and you can register for each series webcast now on the SMPTE Events page.
