The SMPTE Sum-Up 4-20-24

April 21, 2024

Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. This week at SMPTE:

AfroAnimation took place last week, and SMPTE was there to experience it in all its glory! The multi-cultural summit emphasizes the creator economy in media, and featured many diverse voices from the storytelling, animation, and technical aspects of the industry. SMPTE leadership in attendance reached out to everyone from students to established creatives, expanding our network and creating new opportunities for mutual growth. It was truly an exciting event!

Immediately following AfroAnimation was the 2024 NAB Show, and SMPTE played a huge role in the event. Hosting the Future of Cinema, RiS, and special sessions, SMPTE not only updated the industry on everything we were working on, but everything we plan to do in the future for our members and the media technology field as a whole. There is a lot to cover so keep an eye out for a full 2024 NAB Wrap-Up in a future issue of the Motion Imaging Journal.

Attention all Color Experts: take the RIS-OSVP Color Management Vendor Survey! The goal of the survey is to identify virtual production thresholds in color management. Results will be featured in a series of engineering articles intended to educate the public on color management practices, problems, and solutions. Participate today!

Section elections have begun and members have until April 29th to vote! Don’t miss your chance to select your section leadership. SMPTE is your society, and it’s pivotal to choose the leaders that fit your goals for the year. Vote today!

Call for Papers for the 2024 Media Technology Summit is open! Original, unpublished manuscripts aligning these goals will undergo multi-peer review when submitted as abstracts. Abstracts should fall within the range of 300 to 400 words and will be accepted from now till May 30. The conference program committee will notify authors of decisions by June 30.

The SMPTE Job Board has been updated!

Apply Today!
