The SMPTE Sum-Up 5-11-24

May 12, 2024

Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. This week at SMPTE:

SMPTE President Renard T. Jenkins recently spoke at an online event for young media professionals in Ukraine. Denys Krasinkov, founder of Co-Founder of Vidbiy and sponsor for this event, described the impact, “President Jenkins shared his expertise, offering invaluable guidance to AI for media. This online event held particular significance as it aimed to support Ukrainian students and young professionals amidst the challenging circumstances posed by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.”

SMPTE San Fransico held a meeting this week that acted as a wrap-up of the 2024 NAB Show. The event included a panel made up of Thomas True, Dave Van Hoy, Matt Lavine, Marcelle Rutherford, and Joseph Borrego. John Shike led them in a rousing discussion on the exciting developments shown at NAB. This was one of several SMPTE section NAB wrap-ups, so more on the rest next week.

SMPTE Washington DC is excited to announce that Bits by the Bay is finally returning after their long hiatus! In partnership with SBE Chapter 37, and hosted by National Geographic, this event will feature three separate talks on May 22. The live event is open to 50 people, but you can also attend this event virtually! Register now!

Call for Papers for the 2024 Media Technology Summit is open! Original, unpublished manuscripts aligning these goals will undergo multi-peer review when submitted as abstracts. Abstracts should fall within the range of 300 to 400 words and will be accepted from now till May 30. The conference program committee will notify authors of decisions by June 30.
