The SMPTE Sum-Up 6-13-2026

June 23, 2026

Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. Recently at SMPTE:

The June Technology Committee (TC) Meetings were held this week. Each year, usually quarterly, the Standards Community meets in week-long TC Meetings to report on progress and to move forward with Standards work that is more easily accomplished in face-to-face meetings. The June meetings were held in Denver, CO this year. There will soon be a TC Meeting report available for those unable to attend.

The SMPTE Rocky Mountain Section held a social for the June TC Meetings. This exclusive mixer was a kick-off to a week of intensive meetings and networking events. Sponsored by Key Code Media, the evening featured a selection of appetizers and soft drinks, along with a guided tour of the Mountain Media Center.

SMPTE New York held their Start of Summer Party this week. Held at Dorlan’s Tavern & Oyster Bar in Manhattan, this lighthearted event was a great way for SMPTE NY members to ring in the summer. SMPTE Members were allowed to bring a guest, making the party a casual affair, rather than the typical networking event.

The final Women in Streaming Media Webcast was held this week. “Optimizing Adtech Workflows” dove into deeper into the advertiser, broadcaster and consumer’s mind to understand the problem we are solving. How can we create an integrated tech solution which combines linear and digital inventory, simplifies processes, faster access to buy/sell and create effective reach to increase ROI. The webcast was hosted by Shivani Kochhar, Senior Manager, Converged AdTech & Linear Systems at Warner Bros. Discovery.

NVIDIA unveiled RTX Spark at GTC Taipei on May 31, a superchip combining a Blackwell RTX GPU with 6144 CUDA cores and fifth-generation Tensor Cores with FP4 precision, connected via NVLink-C2C to a 20-core Grace CPU developed with MediaTek. If all that sounds fast it’s because it is. NVIDIA says the chip delivers 1 petaflop of AI compute with up to 128 GB of unified memory, and is targeting a new category of slim Windows laptops and compact desktop PCs, with availability from ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface and MSI this fall.
