SMPTE Hollywood held its Section Summer Picnic on July 11 at Brace Canyon Park in Burbank. It was a beautiful sunny day, attracting nearly 40 members and potential future members. The chapter provided food, sodas and water—and guests were also treated to Sieg Hepp’s delicious salad and Joe Kane’s famous carrot cake! There were games available including cornhole, frisbee, smash ball and croquet. And our Section leader and DJ Juan Reyes provided tunes for the picnic, which is expected to become an annual event.

SMPTE Ohio held a joint session with SBE Chapter 52 at WSYX TV broadcast studio plant. The guest speaker for the evening meeting was Dave Arland, a long time multi- disciplined broadcast engineering technologist and industry consultant. His presentation topic centered around the past, current, and suggested future, transition progress involving the new ATSC 3.0 NextGen terrestrial TV broadcast standards covering the USA.
