SMPTE Atlanta held a meeting on the basics of audio/visual preservation. This virtual meeting detailed the best practices and strategies for dealing with exabytes of data, a quantity that this writer has definitely heard of before. Safeguarding vital data is extremely important, so this meeting was a meaningful event for every media tech professional in attendance.

The 2024 NAB Show is here and SMPTE will be hosting a ton of sessions! SMPTE RiS-OSA is holding two networking events during NAB! The NAB Golfing Event will take place on Tuesday April 16 at 6:40 PM PST and will feature 9 holes and great networking. Speaking of RIS-OSVP is hosting an afterparty at Vu Studios! Professionals and enthusiasts of Virtual Production are invited to eat, drink, and be merry after a long day at NAB! Attention all Color Experts: take the RIS-OSVP Color Management Vendor Survey! The goal of the survey is to identify virtual production thresholds in color management. Results will be featured in a series of engineering articles intended to educate the public on color management practices, problems, and solutions. Participate today!

Section elections have begun and members have until April 29^th to vote! Don’t miss your chance to select your section leadership. SMPTE is your society, and it’s pivotal to choose the leaders that fit your goals for the year. Vote today!

Award nominations are now open for the 2024 Annual Awards Gala! All SMPTE members are able to nominate someone for one of our prestigious awards, which will be given out during the 2024 Media Technology Summit. The deadline to submit a nomination is April 15^th, so don’t wait!

Call for Papers for the 2024 Media Technology Summit is open! Original, unpublished manuscripts aligning these goals will undergo multi-peer review when submitted as abstracts. Abstracts should fall within the range of 300 to 400 words and will be accepted from now till May 30. The conference program committee will notify authors of decisions by June 30.

The SMPTE Job Board has been updated!
