In section news SMPTE Washington D.C. held a joint meeting with SBE on advanced monitoring and control use cases in broadcasting. The event detailed how broadcasts can now be controlled remotely, and the kinds of advanced privacy measures that need to be put in place to make this work safe and effective.

In the education world, the webcast, Taming the Control Plane – SMPTE/IABM Town Hall, was this Thursday. The productive discussion led to some amazing insights on controlling devices and services remotely using Cloud technology. It seems everyone is interested in remote work these days, and this town hall weighed the pros and cons of that desire, as well as some of the safety issues that would need to be addressed in these workflows.

Last, but not least, SMPTE is proud to present the Biggest Virtual Production Show Ever! This event can be attended in person in Hollywood or remotely via Zoom. This event will include liver performances utilizing an LED mega wall and video game engine to show just how powerful virtual production can be. There will also be many speakers at this event, including SMPTE’s own Executive Director, David Grindle, and RiS Senior Manager, Dr. Ryan Hendricks. Register now!

That’s it for this week’s SMPTE Sum-Up. For more information on past and current events, standards projects, and webcasts, visit our website. See you next week!
