Projects

The migration allowed us to move from the more traditional list-based project management we know from the SMPTE OLC to card base project management system in the SMPTE SKN. The underlying tool is Microsoft Planner which provides board on which card for tasks can be placed. These cards can then be moved from left to right or vice versa from one list to another. The list are called “Buckets”.

The new SMPTE project Planner boards implement the process steps, with percentage completed, as set forth in SMPTE AG-19. Three boards were created to accommodate the different SMPTE document development processes. One board for engineering documents (ST, RP and EG), one board for RDD’s and one board for engineering documents.

Each board is attached as tab’s to the “Projects” channel in the SMPTE Standards community.

Each project migrated from the SMPTE OLC is marked with “(OLC Legacy)” in the title field of the project card. Each OLC legacy card has a “Project Statement” attached to it together with a link to the group/team the project is associated with. The Project Statement contains project information copied from the related project page on the SMPTE OLC. This includes project overview, activities, ballots and relationships to groups. An example of a migrated card is below.

Projects cards are maintained by the assigned project owner.

Please note, some of the projects migrated from SMPTE OLC to the SMPTE SKN were not properly maintained. Clean of the projects needs to be conducted to bring the project up to date.

Please note, due to the move from the SMPTE OLC we lost the ability to link documents to projects or vis versa. A work around, until we found a better solution, is to add the document names to the “Notes” field of the project card.

The project statements for each migrated project are located in the “Files” tab of the “Projects” channel under the SMPTE Standards Community team. We are using project statements at the moment to facilitate the transfer of important project information. In the future we will use the approved AG06 documents for each project as attachment to the project card. This will help to reduce errors introduce by transferring AG06 data to the card. Only minimal and necessary information will be displayed on the card itself.
