ASC Test Film Coming in 2022

In mid-December, the ASC’s Motion Imaging Technology Council (MITC) finished production on a 16-minute short film called The Mission—made by ASC members for the purpose of offering the industry a standardized viewing tool to use for testing theatrical projection displays, monitors, and various types of post-production software and hardware. The MITC’s Next Generation Cinema Display Committee headed the project as part of its ongoing Standard Evaluation Material II (StEM2) initiative and has said the film will be made available in a wide range of delivery formats in the early part of 2022. The film includes numerous locations, interiors and exteriors, different lighting schemes, different types of set-ups and action, high dynamic range exposures, high color gamut images, high resolution details, CG animation, and material shot with the latest virtual production techniques on an LED volume stage, among other visual pieces.
