Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. This week at SMPTE:
On November 22nd, the SMPTE UK section hosted special guest, Andy Beale, for their annual Bill Lovell Lecture. This event honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to the media industry with an interesting story to tell. Beale gave a stirring talk about his many accomplishments after a fun happy hour, making it an exciting evening for all.
SMPTE Storytellers held a special webcast last week: The First Film. Award-winning director/writer/producer David Wilkinson and Emmy-winning SMPTE Fellow Mark Schubin, hosted the special education event on Wilkinson’s film, which details the life of Augustus Le Prince, the inventor of the father of film. It was a thrilling and educational event!
Last, but not least, SMPTE Australia held their annual holiday party this week! This casual event was held in Sydney, but people from all over Australia came to celebrate 2023, and plan for 2024. There was a feeling of excitement in the air, especially about the upcoming METexpo. It was a perfect way to close out the year!
