The SMPTE Sum-Up

Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. This week at SMPTE:

SMPTE Washington DC held a Zoom townhall called “Cloud Confabulation.” This meeting didn’t just have a fun name. It was a riveting, yet informal, discussion on cloud technology. Lead by Jonathan Soloman and John Footen, this discussion featured some of the best minds working with cloud technology today, including Paul Briscoe, Jamie Duemo, and Bruce Devlin.

SMPTE RiS had an update about color management in on-set virtual production! Color management has changed in the face of this new tech, and our speakers had a lot to say about it. Catherine Meininger, Tim Kang, Rod Bogart, and Ritchie Argue touched on the new workflows that will emerge from these changes.

This week, SMPTE Sacramento held their Fall Social for the first time in four years! A beloved event by all SMPTE Sacramento members, and the media community of Sacramento as a whole, this event was a night full of fun, food, and refreshments. We’re happy to see this event come back and bring the community together.

Last, but certainly not least, SMPTE hosted a webcast this week celebrating the centennial of 16 MM film! Panelists included Richard Jura, David Bendiksen, and Alyssa Bolsey, the great-granddaughter of brilliant mind behind the Bolex camera! It was an event to be remembered, as this webcast was close to the hearts of every film maker who used a Bolex camera to shoot their earliest films.
